I have always had opinions about Christmas stockings.
And since becoming a mother, those opinions have only expanded.
You might say, Lizzy… what a trivial thing to have an opinion about, and while you might be on to something, I have detailed and in depth observations and conclusions drawn about the humble Christmas stocking.
Stockings are too big. There, I said it.
They are too big. And to fill an entire stocking you’re either filling them with stuff that’s going to get thrown away, too much candy, OR things that are small but more expensive than your presents under the tree.
I will allow stationery. I will allow sewing/stitching notions. I will allow a kitchen gadget or two. I will allow socks. A new set of hair clips. An orange, a candy cane, and maybe some other treat.
Maileg stocking? There aren’t ANY presents under the tree.
Skincare stocking? What’s the budget?
Jewelry? What am I? A millionaire?
In my world, the stockings are shrinking. Call it “shrinkflation”. Call me a grinch. I would just call me a lady on a budget.
Would you also believe that I take grave issue with the shape of stockings? I think most are kind of bulbous and vexing. Giant round toe? Giant round heal? Zero slope from giant heel to toe. Are you trying to give me nightmares? It’s too much for me.
When I originally made the Peep Boot, I wanted to make a stocking that 1. I could look at without becoming sick to my stomach, and 2. was something really sweet and memorable. But not in an offensive way.
They come from the feet of my Castle Peeps (hello 2010). I’ve drawn feet this way for as long as I can remember. They crack me up. So in my mind, it was the perfect marriage of a stocking and my illustrations.
I have my old Peep Boot pattern, and I have the new one, which we’re calling the Elf Boot. The old one is classic. Tall. Super cute. The new one is about half the size, and you know what? It’s pretty perfect! It has all the cuteness of the bigger one, but it’s actually a little more refined in shape, and it’s the perfect filling size. It has intentional limits.
The new Elf Boot pattern will be included in the new Little Treat Club that will come out with my new collection Tiny Christmas, but I wanted you to have this in time for Christmas. I also wanted to give you the choice between the original and the newer smaller version. You might not share my stocking opinions, and I respect that, but I think you’ll enjoy these festive boots.
If you are a paid subscriber, you can download the pattern below, OR the pattern will be available in the shop update next week! Everyone wins.
I hope you’ve had a great week!
I’ve got some surprises for you in the next few days!
