This makes me so sad. You have always been my favorite. You have been very missed. I was so excited you were releasing fabric again. I hoard your old lines and bought a ton of love letter. It does concern me that you are being judged where 2/3 of the lines are holiday. Some people don’t buy holiday prints like they do other things. I think it’s a hard time in general. Shops are closing, both local and big names, prices are going up, collections are bigger, people can’t buy like they used to. I know I chose Love Letter over other lines I might have otherwise bought. I hope no matter what you don’t close the door for good. These are volatile times and who knows what will be in a few years.

You know, I'd never actually purchased any holiday prints before. I'd never even thought to make a specific to Christmas quilt. Then I started using Tiny Christmas, which is ACTUALLY some of my favorite fabric I've ever sewn with, and now I want a Christmas quilt for every bed. It like flipped a switch in me. I find it all very funny.

Regardless of the current situation, I don't think I can ever really stop designing fabric. It's too meaningful to me. It's like one of my most important art supplies for making work. Thank you for loving and supporting me all this time.

I always buy the complete line for every line of fabric you put out. I still have Castle Peeps even. You have always been my favorite designer in the 14 years I've been quilting. That definitely won't change as long as you are designing, I will keep buying it. Wishing all the best for your new line.

Well, I don’t know why they would say it’s not selling well I know how much money I spent on tiny Christmas ha ha. But also the more traditional quilt shops may not be your market, but those of us who love you love you and we’re always gonna buy your fabric so many things in my head right now I’ll PM you on Instagram.

This is heartbreaking to hear. I know since the pandemic even, that a lot of fabric is up for preorder. I really hate to preorder a fabric from someone because sometimes I end up waiting months, when other shops have gotten theirs. So, at this point, I wait until it is actually released. I understand why the fabric companies are doing it-they need an idea of how much to order-but, as a consumer it’s frustrating-especially, as you said-spending precious money. I wonder if companies are aware that many of us are frustrated with this process. I don’t know who to preorder from because I don’t know how they decide who receives it first. Like with Tiny Christmas-I am dying to purchase it and have put it on my birthday list for June. I really want to make the Smitten remix that you showed, but I am afraid to preorder because I know I can finish it this year for the Holidays but only if I actually receive it in June. Now, I’m freaking out a little and am afraid there might not be enough available when June rolls around😯 And, who doesn’t love a good Pearl Bracelet in the mix? I do! I will definitely be on the lookout for your Valentine line too. You need to do what is best for you. This has nothing to do with your talent and everything to do with the economy! I used to be a freelance graphic designer and illustrator-I know that I would be in trouble if I was still working!

I really hear you on the pre-order business. I certainly don't like having money tied up for months. For me it's inevitable with purchasing/manufacturing product, but I can't even imagine as a shop having to really make a gamble 6-8 months out on a line. Putting up $4k+ for a collection... putting up pre-orders and then CANCELING the order to the manufacturer if the pre-orders aren't strong, because that is being used as a metric for if people want it or not. I really like the system that Fat Quarter shop uses. You buy a $2 reservation.

It's a rough out there, and again, while I can understand the pre-order model for ordering purposes, as a manufacturer myself, I think it leaves out a huge segment of the population who would absolutely buy a collection when it becomes available.

I know that I am only one person, but I just preordered an enormous amount of Tiny Christmas! I did all Intrepid Thread, to see if they would be making up kits for the Smitten version and they said no, because Moda wasn’t sending it out for a reprint. So, I will have to just get on the preorder bandwagon, so they can see how much I want a line. And, again-I will be on the lookout for the Valentines Day line! If you do decide you want to keep going-let us know if there is anything more we can do than preorder to help! Like an email about how we adore your designs and, at least wait until this ridiculously unnecessary recession we are in before giving up on you.

As someone who thinks (sincerely) that these two collections are beautiful standouts, I'm super curious about this part:

"they’re just going to choose something safer, and you know what I mean"

... I don't think I do know! When I look at certain fabric/pattern catalogs, it does seem like they are 10% one kind of thing, 90% another. Is that 90% the safe zone? Or is it something more specific?

You don't have to answer. My main point is really that your work resonates with me and I'm a fan regardless of the medium or delivery method (^-^).

You’ve got the idea 💡 most will just buy what’s known and “popular” regardless of how much it looks like the last 15 collections they carried/ the designer put out.

I've been so happy to see you releasing fabric again. Unfortunately, the shops in my area don't tend to carry Moda and if they do, they don't carry much of the modern stuff. With the current political climate and a looming recession, I do think a lot of us are going to be forced to cut back on fabric shopping.

I love all of your work. Constellations is my all time favorite collection with Natural History as a close second. I love the new scale of your pearl bracelets and all of your new Moda collections are to die for.

I'm really afraid that this will not be a unique experience. We will probably see a lot of creators drop out due to current financial situation. Be STRONG and do what is BEST for YOU!

Aw Lizzy. I am so sorry. I love all of your fabric and the collections themselves are just divine. I am actually in the middle of making a very precious set of twins a pair of “Lizzy Lone Star” baby quilts - all your precious hoarded fabrics from my stash are going into these quilts, as a kind of prayer for these much-loved girls who aren’t even born yet. I’ve put Love Letter where I can see it and pet it every day until the right quilt idea comes along… :)

But I think it’s important to be flexible about these things, and to work toward your own life. What you do brings so many people so much joy, but it isn’t worth it if you are miserable and burnt out. I keep thinking of Van Gogh, how he painted Starry Night (and countless other beautiful works) when he was at his most supported and cared for. People glamorize his pain and suffering but the best art came from a place of healing and care.

I want the very best life for you, friend. If that means no more fabric, I will sew with what I have, and be joyfully proud and supportive of your art in other ways. If it means more fabric, that’s awesome too. It’s a terrible time for all creators. The world feels like it’s stretched too thin at the moment. But I appreciate so much how hard you work and what you give to the world.

it's sort of strange. As I step back and observe all of what has taken place it's easy to feel overwhelmed and like I'm not moving forward, but honestly it feels like I'm on the cusp of something very aligned. Love you, Jenn. I want to see those quilts (and those babies) when they get here.

I am so sorry to hear that. I am a small online fabric shop in Australia and people loved Love Letter. Christmas collections however don’t sell well in Australia… it is the middle of our summer so we don’t need quilts for that! And as much as I love hearts (I did a whole year of heart patterns last year!) we also don’t decorate for Valentine’s Day. But hoping the collection can be useful for wedding quilts, gift quilts for loved ones etc 🤞 can’t wait to see the catalogue! And yes, the global market (thanks to Tr#mp) is shite and discretionary spending has plummeted.

It’s not super traditional valentines. The colors could be used all year. Just pretty sweet motifs. Thanks for your support, Anne.

Late to the party here but HEAVY on the big collections and pre order model being difficult on a budget. Don’t get me wrong I’d buy a 100 print collection from you but I think Moda in particular has a LOT of SKUs and it can make it super expensive to own a whole line and also takes a lot of shelf space when people are always trying to keep stashes low. I’d love like 12 incredible feature prints and maybe a separate basics line. I’m so sad to see that it hasn’t been a triumph so far when I was SO happy to see you back and hope some way forward is found!
